Top 3 Cafés I Love to Visit as a Creative (Plus One Bonus!)

As a creative who spends a lot of time thinking, painting, and filming, the right cafe can make all the difference in my productivity and inspiration. Some places are great for editing or sketching, others are perfect for people-watching or getting in that flow state with a tea in hand. Here are my current favorite spots to create, hang out, and simply be:

1. Spocket Cafe

This spot is pure comfort; it instantly feels like a creative’s second home. I can easily set up my tripod to film without feeling like everyone’s watching, and the cozy vibe helps me settle into long stretches of work or inspiration time. Their bagel sammies are chef’s kiss—seriously, order the turkey one and thank me later. The staff are warm and personable, so it always feels friendly without being distracting, which is perfect when I need to focus or get into the zone.

2. Discourse Coffee | Radio Milwaukee

If I could live off their Parisian yogurt bowl forever, I would. This place has such a cool, funky energy—think great music, interesting people, and a vibe that feels both artistic and relaxed. It’s ideal for brainstorming, journaling, or editing footage while soaking in some local flavor. You might even spot familiar creative faces like Charlie Bearns (I got to see him there once and nearly died from excitement); it feels like a hub for record lovers, writers, thinkers, and anyone who thrives on a little inspiration with their espresso.

3. Blüm Coffee Garden

Blüm is like stepping into a calming garden oasis. The lush plant life, beautiful architecture, and serene atmosphere make it one of my favorite places to clear my head and let ideas flow. It’s quiet enough to concentrate, but still visually stimulating; perfect for sketching, writing blogs (umm maybe even this one), or planning my next big project. If I want peace and pretty surroundings, this is where I go.

Bonus: Charleston Cafe

Close to home, this is my go-to when I want something convenient and delightful. The patio area is a dream on sunny days; great for laying out a notebook, sipping an iced latte, and watching the world go by. The staff are genuinely sweet, the menu is consistently delicious, and it just feels like a happy, creative respite. Whether I’m working outside or grabbing a quick bite before a shoot, Chaelston rarely disappoints.

Why Cafés Matter to Me as a Creative

Cafe culture isn’t just about coffee (or tea in my case); it’s about atmosphere, a place for connection as I am frequently having coffee dates with other industryfriends, and finding the right backdrop for whatever kind of creative mood I’m in…whether that’s caffeinated focus, quiet reflection, or catching inspiration mid-sip. These places aren’t just my favorite spots to hang; they’re my creative companions, and I love returning to them again and again.
